Betrayal
Do you know anyone who hasn’t been betrayed? Whether by a friend who shares a confidence, a sibling who breaks a promise, a colleague who chooses to support another, or a parent who with holds love, each is painful. Perhaps we more commonly think of a lover’s, partner’s or spouse’s betrayal – that of a duplicitous relationship concealed with lies, secrecy and coverups.
The worst betrayal I’ve experienced was discovering upon his death, after 17 years of marriage, that my husband was a bigamist. In case you are unsure what that means my Webster’s Dictionary defines bigamy as: “the act of entering into a marriage with one person while still legally married to another.”
Bigamy is illegal in many countries including the U.S. The fallout from that is the subject of my forth coming memoir, Strings Attached.
