Challenging Limitations

What would it be like to eliminate all the assumed prohibitions and ideas handed down to us? It starts with our family’s rules, regulations and expectations. We are bombarded: news, advertisements, schoolteachers, laws, religion, comments made by friends and family. How would it be to behave and lead our lives without the pressure of all the built up “junk” we’ve been brainwashed with?

Imagine the freedom from shame of not having followed every insistence of your parents. The voice in your head that says I shouldn’t, I won’t. The burden lifted from not worrying about the pressure of fingernail length and color. Your hair’s tint. The spider lines in your eyes. Does my pocketbook/purse, sweatshirt, or shoe have the latest name on it to attract envy?

Some years ago, when my dad was 98, the family wanted to visit the Dallas Arboretum. If Dad wanted to join us, we insisted that he would have to use a wheelchair. He refused, saying that it would make him look old. Really? Everyone at the park was thinking and observing him?

Know who you are. Forget about what others think. Release expectations imposed by others.
